Forget the Pet Store. Adopt a Puppy, Kitten or Other Pet From a Pet Shelter.

The local pet store may seem like an obvious choice for those wishing to add a new pet to the family. Consider, however, that many of the pets that end up at pet stores come from infamous puppy mills where pets are bred in atrocious conditions often without human companionship. These puppies often have medical conditions and, frankly, such purchases only encourage the factory like manner in which they are bred. Local pet shelters take care to make sure your pets are socialized and healthy. In fact, many sad looking pets evolve into loving family members especially with the extra follow-up assistance and behavior counseling such shelters provide. |
